Nanaimo Science Summer Camp Bursary

Nanaimo Science Summer Camp Bursary 2025

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE COMPLETING THE NANAIMO SCIENCE BURSARY APPLICATION Nanaimo Science recognizes that certain families have financial positions which would make it difficult for them to access Nanaimo Science programs, specifically week-long summer camps, but who would benefit from their child(ren) being enrolled in these programs. To support the needs of these families, Nanaimo Science has created the following bursary program: Families seeking financial support for summer camps can apply for bursaries to fund 75% of their camp fees for one week of camp. A family can apply for multiple children in the same application. Families will be responsible for the remaining 25% of camp fees ($87.50 per week per child) payable at the time of registration (April 1, 2025). If a family cancels their camp after registration, only the family-paid portion of the camp fee will be refunded. Families will be asked to attest to financial hardship/provide proof of financial need, through the means of either: Proof of currently receiving income assistance Proof of the children who will be attending camp being in care (CYIC). Proof of recent refugee (emergency travel papers) Household income below a threshold set by the Financial Needs Bursary Committee (a value that will be reviewed annually and indexed to a poverty line metric, such as the City of Nanaimo LEAP program values); or, Proof of currently qualifying for a similar subsidy program such as the City of Nanaimo’s LEAP program or the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program as examples. Applications will be reviewed by a subcommittee from the Nanaimo Science Board of Directors. The subcommittee will allocate the bursaries in a random lottery of eligible applications. For 2025, a total of four (4) bursaries are available. The subcommittee’s adjudication meeting is private. All applications will be destroyed after each adjudication and only decision regarding bursaries allocated will be recorded for administrative use. The subcommittee’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Please direct all questions regarding this application form to the Executive Director - info@nanaimoscience.org All communication for the bursary will be conducted by email.
