Hands on Interactive Programs

Nanaimo Science’s Science on the Move van can bring hands-on interactive programs to your school! Sessions run for 60 minutes following dismissal. We are happy to work with school coordinators or PAC members!

General Details

After-school programs are best suited for groups of 20 students or fewer (depending on the space where the program will be delivered).
Student enrollment is best when limited to a 4-grade range (e.g. Kindergarten to Grade 3; Grade 3 to Grade 6) where possible. However activities can be for any grade too!
Students’ access to the bathroom will be needed, and a list of registrants with emergency contacts and/or a school/parent volunteer for check-in/out.
Prices are set per visit (a session), and per student. We recommend multi-week/session programs so children can build on their knowledge and explore different science areas.
Each program is 60 minutes in duration.

How it works!

1. Pick a series of dates (e.g. April 4, 11, 18 & 25)

2. Pick a theme from our list of suggestions, or work with us on custom themes!
3. Advertise to families (minimum 12 kids needed)

4. Register more kids and get free spots! (15th and 30th kid free)

5. Collect family fee and contact information

6. Share details with Nanaimo Science
7. Programs start right after the end-of-day bell (e.g. 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM), if hosting two back-to-back clubs, second starts at 3:35 – 4:35 PM)

You provide:

Space in your school (multipurpose room, library or gym)
One school staff member/PAC volunteer responsible for child hand-off to parents
Student sign-ups (list of names/ages of children)

We provide

2 trained Outreach Educators (with criminal record checks & active first aid training)
All supplies and materials for programs

RUN CLUBS AS A PAC FUNDRAISER!

Add on PAC bonus which you retain e.g. Each student = $20 per hour
Earn $8 per student, 12 minimum students x 4 visits = $386
Apply free spots to families in need, or add 100% of the registration fees to your earnings!

Suggested Themes for 4-week Series:

KEVA Building & Ozobot Coding (a great starter program that combines building and bots!)
Natural History (Animal exploration, crafts & check out specimens)
Movie Makers (learn stop-motion, special effects, work with a green screen)
Anatomy (skeletal system, senses, circulatory system & DNA)
Up, Up & Away (kites, wind tunnels, rockets & space science)

PAC members!

Nanaimo Science After School Programs are great fundraisers for your PAC! You can adjust the registration fee to include an amount that the PAC retains. Contact us to book your 4- or 6-week block of sessions!
