Celebrate World Ocean Day with free programing and information sessions for students at Departure Bay Beach!

Wednesday, June 8th, 20223

30-minute sessions by registration starting a 9:00 AM

Kinsmen Park (near the Kin Hut at Departure Bay Beach)

SEAMOR Marine, a local Subsea Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) manufacturer, and Nanaimo Science, a non-profit science education organization, have partnered up to provide this special day of free educational programming and hands-on activities for students.

“Ocean Cleanups”

During each 30-minute presentation block SEAMOR Marine will have an ROV on display, and share information about how ROVs remove “ghost gear” (abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear) from our oceans, and the home-grown technology of the ROVs designed and fabricated by our Nanaimo-based company.

Nanaimo Science will have educational displays about ocean litter, microplastics, and hands-on activities for students to learn about the challenges of ocean pollution on animals and marine habitats.

We have eight (8) presentation blocks available (1 class per slot) – bookings for presentation blocks are on a first-come first-served basis. We expect them to fill up quickly!

Please email [email protected] to reserve your class’ spot!

Please note transportation to the beach is not provided.
