DESCRIPTION:The 45th annual Family Day will take place on May 28\, 2023. \nSince 1976\, Family Day has been sponsored by the Town of Qualicum Beach and organized by a group of dedicated volunteers. \nHeld on the last Sunday of May\, the event includes a pancake breakfast at the Civic Cente\, a street parade down Second Avenue\, and an afternoon of activities\, entertainment\, and food at the Community Playing Field. The day then wraps up with a free swim at Ravensong. \nThe generous support of the many volunteers\, community partners and participants have made Family Day a success for over 4 decades. We look forward to seeing you all for a great day on May 28\, 2023!

Absolutely! \nMeet Sheri\, a fabulous Stampin’ Up demonstrator and creative card maker!  Sheri will be leading us through a beautiful light-up card that would make a wonderful Mothers’ Day or Father’s Day card\, or to mark any occasion! \nNanaimo Science will be preparing you with some circuit activities so that creating your card will be fun and easy! \nAll supplies will be provided. \nThis event is intended for families to take part in with adults present\, or for adults on their own!  Best for children ages 7+ with a participating adult. \nImportant registration details: \n\nRegistration is based on making one (1) card.\nParticipants may work in pairs or alone to create the card.\nA maximum of two people (two adults *or* one child and one adult) can share making a card. \nSome elements can be customized by participants so that if multiple members in a family are attending\, they will have slightly different cards to take home.

DESCRIPTION:Parents – enjoy a quiet night out while kids have fun at Nanaimo Science! \nChildren ages 6-12 \nSchedule: \n\nCheck-in/Drop-off: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM\n\nFree play (Keva blocks\, PlusPlus) & dinner from home.\n\n\nScience activities 6:00 – 8:00 PM\n\nKids will enjoy designing and building at different stations\, learning how to modify their designs and work as a team.  Activities will include Rube Goldberg machines\, marble walls\, wind tunnels\, and more!\nFor kids needing a break\, we will have a short movie on in one section of our space to relax in starting around 7:00 PM\n\n\nPick-up time: 8:00 PM\n\nPlease pack a dinner for your children!  We will have a small bag of (microwaved-popped) popcorn at the end of the night for children. \nChildren may be picked-up earlier if desired.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate World Ocean Day with free programing and information sessions for students at Departure Bay Beach! \nWednesday\, June 8th\, 20223 \n30-minute sessions by registration starting a 9:00 AM \nKinsmen Park (near the Kin Hut at Departure Bay Beach) \nSEAMOR Marine\, a local Subsea Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) manufacturer\, and Nanaimo Science\, a non-profit science education organization\, have partnered up to provide this special day of free educational programming and hands-on activities for students. \n“Ocean Cleanups” \nDuring each 30-minute presentation block SEAMOR Marine will have an ROV on display\, and share information about how ROVs remove “ghost gear” (abandoned\, lost\, or discarded fishing gear) from our oceans\, and the home-grown technology of the ROVs designed and fabricated by our Nanaimo-based company. \nNanaimo Science will have educational displays about ocean litter\, microplastics\, and hands-on activities for students to learn about the challenges of ocean pollution on animals and marine habitats. \nWe have eight (8) presentation blocks available (1 class per slot) – bookings for presentation blocks are on a first-come first-served basis. DESCRIPTION:Parents – enjoy a quiet night out while kids have fun at Nanaimo Science! \nChildren ages 6-12 \nSchedule: \n\nCheck-in/Drop-off: 5:00 PM\nFree play (Keva blocks\, PlusPlus)\nPizza dinner 5:30 PM\nScience activities 6:00 – 7:00 PM\n“Ready\, set\, ROLL!:” Kids will explore the wheel\, a simple machine that can really get around!  They’ll build vehicles out of LEGO and other supplies and\, test out how friction impedes movement.  Cars can race against each other or take part in durability test with different obstacles for those who prefer solo challenges!\nFree play\nPick-up time: 7:30 PM – 8:00 PM\n\nEach child will receive 2 small pieces of cheese pizza and a juice box as part of this program.  We encourage families to send their kids with additional food/snacks to round out their meal (veggie sticks\, fruit\, yogurt)\, and a water bottle\, or\, if there are food intolerances/allergies to the food provided\, a complete dinner for your child.  Sorry\, we cannot provide alternatives for individual children. \nChildren may be picked-up earlier if desired.
