NS3’s Summer Science Camps

NS3 Summer Science Camps are designed to challenge your ingenuity, stimulate your imagination, get your hands dirty and your feet wet, and share the joy of discovery.

2018 Summer Camps

Matter of Fact

Join the NS3 for a week of exploring matter!  Everything around us is made of matter- students will learn about states of matter and phase changes.  This week will include many chemistry related experiments involving solutions, mixtures and various reactions.  We will incorporate specific activities such as lava bottles, making butter, various slime investigations, chromatography, fizzy fountains and dunking divers.

June 18-22 Ages: 6+ *FULL*

Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead

A week of adventure with projects and activities from across the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and math! We’ll be making paper, experimenting with glow-in-the-dark gels, harnessing the power of the sun, messing around with magnets and exploring some of our local ecology. Test out different flying machines as we explore Bernoulli’s principle and air pressure and tinker away with some cranky contraptions.

June 26-30  Ages: 6+

LEGO-Mania

Four days of LEGO Robotics! Students will construct models and bring them to life with easy to use programming. Start with some introductory robots and LEGO Wedo programs and move on to more advanced creations using MindStorm kits. Students can work at their own pace and no prior LEGO Robotics experience is necessary. We will also mix things up a bit with other LEGO themed activities, challenges and some time spent outside.

TECH-tologists Club

This week we’ll be focusing on coding, engineering and other fun technology oriented activities. Learn how to make simple motors, try some stop-motion animation and create your own holograms. Some time will be spent outside and exploring local geocaches using GPS. Create recycled material robots using simple circuitry! Discover radio waves and currents as students build their own radio and build wind-powered crank mechanism to move a paper sculpture!

Adventures in Science: Girl’s Science Club

Dive into a week of exploration and tinkering from all disciplines of science, technology, engineering, arts and math in a unique all girls environment! Explore what’s in our cells as we extract DNA from bananas. Make instant worms, slime and lip balm to discover what polymers are and how we use them. Continue our do-it-yourself fun with bath bombs and a DIY microphone. We will also be spending time outside  and testing our orienteering skills.
