Please scroll down for detailed camp descriptions.
To help ensure social distancing, Nanaimo Science is:
- offering smaller camp sizes
- splitting up camps into two groups for greater supervision
- removing all shared items and providing individual activities for children
- instituting rigorous hand-washing, cleaning and sanitizing
- planning outdoor time and a balance of learning and recreation that will help children ease back into educational activities!
- Some programs may have an additional $5-$10 materials fee to provide “kits” so that children do not share items.
- To help compensate for this cost, we have extended our Early Bird pricing through the summer.
- T-shirts will not be given out this year as we want children to come with freshly laundered clothes daily.
- We will also offering single-day spots to families if any openings are available last-minute.
- Children must be healthy to attend the camp – any child exhibiting signs of sickness, fever, or cough/sneezing will be sent home, as will their siblings.

June 15-19; June 29-30 (part 1) and July 2-3 (part 2); July 13-17; August 4-7; August 17-21
Join NS3 for a week of LEGO mania. Build LEGO creations, program LEGO robots, make your own LEGO movie*, and more! If you’re a LEGO fanatic, this camp is for you! Students can work at their own pace and no prior LEGO Robotics experience is necessary (though a strong interest is required). We will also mix things up a bit with other LEGO themed activities, challenges, and some time spent outside.
*This camp is being run as a 5 day, 4 day, and 2 day camp on specified dates. Only the 5 day camp includes the LEGO stop motion movie activity.
Life of a Scientist
June 22-26; June 29-30 (part 1) and July 2-3 (part 2); August 10 – 14
Do you think you want to be a scientist? Yes?! Then this camp is for you. We will explore what it takes to do science; from problem-solving to practical skills like pipetting and measuring. During the week, we will focus on different types of scientists with hands-on activities and games. Build and launch a foam rocket, experiment with pH indicators, learn about wildlife catch and release, and watch bacteria grow!
This camp is being run as a 5day or 2day camp on specified dates, activities will vary during the shorter weeks.
Let’s Go GIRLS Science Camp
Hey girls – this week is all you! NS3’s all girl week helps budding female scientists find their footing and explore the different areas of science. We will practice coding using a cup stacking challenge and our LEGO Robotics kits. Students will learn the parts of a microscope and use it to observe DNA they extract from fruit and natural objects they collect. Come learn and play with us!
July 13 – 17 and July 27 – 31
Join us for this forestry themed camp. We will have a mix of outdoor education, building activities, and introductions to how people in the forestry industry work. Learn to identify local trees and create a mini ID guide, then test that knowledge in the outdoors. We will look at tree rings, tree anatomy, and challenge ourselves to see what wildfire firefighters and tree planters do. We’ll use critical thinking in hands-on activities and get up close and personal with nature!
Camps by Theme for Ages 6-8
NS3’s Tinker Time camp is all about testing your creativity while building, problem-solving, and exploring! Students will explore energy with building challenges such as an egg drop, a slingshot, and a Rube Goldberg machine. We will create a teleidoscope and a boomerang! There will also be a toy take-apart to see their inner workings.
STEAM it up!
July 20-24 and August 17-21
NS3’s STEAM camp for younger students will provide fun, hands-on ways to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math! We will learn about chemistry with insta-worms and bubbly reactions. Students will paint with magnets, create a water microscope, and build circuits with motors. Join us for a week of science fun!
Best of Summer
NS3’s Best of summer camp for younger campers is exactly what it sounds like! We will pick our favourite fun, hands-on activates from all of our camps and bring them into one. Join us for the last week of science fun of the summer!
Camps by Theme for Ages 8-12
July 20-24, August 4 -7
Nanaimo Science’s Tinker Time camp is all about testing your creativity while building, problem-solving, and exploring! We will create an LED light-up greeting card and build a Newton’s cradle to demonstrate physics concepts. Students will be challenged to protect an egg inside a cardboard car and participate in a knot-tying relay race. We will also have a toy take-apart to see their inner workings.
This camp is being offered as a 5 day and 4 day camp on specified dates, activities will vary for the shorter camp.
July 6-10 and August 10-14
Calling all young computer scientists and programmers (9-12 years old)! Join NS3 for a week all about exploring the multiple forms of technology!
